Wheat Biscuits

A step-by-step recipe for making wheat biscuits:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of salt
- 2-3 tablespoons cold milk
- Chopped nuts or seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). This ensures that the oven is ready when you're done preparing the dough.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, powdered sugar, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract (if using). Adjust the amount of sugar according to your desired level of sweetness.

3. Add Butter:
Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients. Make sure the butter is at room temperature, so it's easier to work with.

4. Combine Ingredients:
Use a fork or your hands to combine the butter with the dry ingredients. Continue mixing until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

5. Add Cold Milk:
Gradually add 2-3 tablespoons of cold milk to the mixture. Start with 2 tablespoons and add more if needed. The goal is to create a soft and pliable dough.

6. Knead the Dough:
Gently knead the dough until it comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough; just knead until it's smooth and uniform.

7. Roll Out the Dough:
Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll it out to your desired thickness, usually around 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

8. Cut into Shapes:
Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into your preferred shapes. Alternatively, you can simply use a knife to cut the dough into squares or rectangles.

9. Garnish (Optional):
If desired, press chopped nuts or seeds onto the surface of each biscuit for decoration and added flavor.

10. Transfer to Baking Sheet:
Carefully transfer the shaped biscuits to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each biscuit.

11. Bake:
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits turn golden brown around the edges.

12. Cool:
Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.

13. Store:
Once completely cooled, store the wheat biscuits in an airtight container. They should stay fresh for several weeks.

Enjoy your homemade wheat biscuits as a healthy and delicious snack! You can adjust the sweetness and customize them with your favorite flavors and garnishes.
